MODIS Vegetation Continuous Fields


Cover estimates are developed by local parameterization of a regression-tree model relating an ensemble sample of global data products representing tree, forest, and crop cover to Landsat-derived estimates of surface reflectance and brightness temperature. Ensemble training data are derived from the MODIS VCF tree cover layer (MOD44B), the MODIS Cropland Probability layer, and estimates of non-forest cover from the Training Data Automation and Support Vector Machines algorithm. The model is used to estimate the proportion of tree cover and its associated estimation uncertaintyas root-mean-square error (RMSE)in each pixel.
